Kristen Peters

Kristen Peters is a recent graduate of the University of Southern Maine.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre in May 2008.  She is currently seeking theatrical internships in the Southern Maine area before applying to graduate school for directing.  Her professional career goal is to become a college theatre professor, teaching acting and directing classes and directing productions.

In February 2008, Kristen was asked by the USM Department of Theatre to direct To Gillian on her 37^th Birthday by Michael Brady on the main stage.  It is a rare and great honor to be asked to direct in this capacity as an undergraduate, and the show was positively received.  For her work on the production, Kristen was nominated to compete in the Region I Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Directing Fellowship Competition. 

Kristen made her directorial debut in October 2006 with Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden, which she adapted from its’ original setting of post-Augusto Pinchet Chile and set in post- Saddam Hussein Iraq.  The production raised serious social and political questions and caused fervent debate in post show discussions.  For her work on Death and the Maiden she was nominated and one of eight student directors selected to compete in the Region I KCACTF Directing Fellowship Competition.

For two years, Kristen served as the publicist for the Student Performing Artists, a student theatre ensemble at the University of Southern Maine.  She publicized over twenty events and created the official website for the group.  Some examples of her graphic design work can be seen on this site on the “publicity portfolio” page.
